Flu season, that is. While there’s no official start date for influenza each year, the Centers for Disease Control, which has tracked flu activity for more than 30 years, has noted an annual uptick of cases starting in mid-October. Between kids, school, work, the gym, public transportation and, well, life, it’s impossible to avoid touching common surfaces that may have been on the receiving end of a flu-tinged hand.
Hands go everywhere and get into everything, and germs can live up to 48 hours on most surfaces. So short of sealing yourself off in a plastic bubble, how can you protect yourself and your family this flu season?
The CDC has some advice on this, too:
1. Avoid close contact.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
2. Stay home when you are sick.
If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. This will help prevent spreading your illness to others.
3. Cover your mouth and nose.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.
4. Clean your hands.
Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs.
5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
6. Practice other good health habits.
Clean frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
Look, we want you to get out there and live life to the fullest, even during flu season. That’s why ZTEK has created two products to help protect you: SKIN TEK, for everyday purifying needs on hands and skin, and SURFACE TEK, for purifying needs on hard surfaces. Hypo-allergenic, alcohol free, with invigorating natural scents like citrus and lemongrass, both are safe for use around children and pets. Just wash hands with natural soap and water, then apply SKIN TEK frequently throughout your day. And don’t forget to use SURFACE TEK to wipe down any desks, toys, equipment or common surfaces for that extra layer of purification.
This flu season, we’re all in it together. But let’s keep the germs to ourselves.
